Tversted-Haus

The Tversted House in Denmark is the first building in the world with a completely concrete and steel-free foundation. The basis for this is GLAPOR cellular glass – a purely mineral, highly pressure-resistant and ecological insulating material that replaces the foundation, floor slab and waterproofing in one.

Around 60 m of strip foundations made of large-format cellular glass boards were installed without adhesive over an area of 200 m². The boards are pressure-resistant up to 68 t/m² – a multiple of the actual building load. This creates a stable, permanently load-bearing structure using a simple plug-in principle.

The house rests solely on the weight of its timber construction. The planning was carried out together with GLAPOR, Cellglas Sweden and the engineering office Structured Environment – a real joint project for sustainable construction with a system.

GLAPOR cellular glass consists of 100% recycled glass and is completely recyclable. The Tversted House shows: Sustainable building starts with the foundations – and does not require any concrete at all.
