Sustainable building starts right at the bottom – with the foundations. With UMB1, a milestone was set in Berlin’s future-oriented TXL: the first 100% concrete-free floor slab with GLAPOR cellular glass. In collaboration with Beta Realities, an innovative substructure was created that completely dispenses with cement and still offers maximum load-bearing capacity.

Instead of conventional concrete, a load-bearing, insulating construction made of pure cellular glass is used. The advantage? Up to 95% less CO₂ emissions, fully recyclable and free of waste – a real breakthrough for circular construction. Without additional materials, the GLAPOR floor slab creates a stable, durable and sustainable foundation.

The so-called FUTR HUT is the first building to use this technology. It impressively demonstrates how urban technologies and ecological building materials can work together – and how easy sustainable construction already is today.

A foundation without concrete – but with a future. The GLAPOR UMB1 shows how building culture and climate protection can be combined.
