For the insulation of the ammonia storage tank base operating at –33 °C, more than 800 m³ of PG 900.3 cellular glass was installed as the insulation material, as it meets the highest requirements for safety, durability, and operational reliability. Thanks to its hermetically sealed closed-cell structure, cellular glass is completely impermeable to water and water vapor. This prevents moisture ingress, ensuring permanently high thermal insulation performance while reliably eliminating the risk of corrosion under insulation (CUI).

It also exhibits a coefficient of thermal expansion similar to that of steel and concrete. As a result, both the insulation system and the supporting structure remain permanently tight and free of cracks, even under repeated temperature fluctuations.
