Requirements in traffic route construction and how cellular glass can help
Building in existing structures or on substrates with low load-bearing capacity places high demands on the choice of materials, load distribution and layer structure. Existing ceilings and load-bearing elements often offer only limited static reserves or are uneven. In order to safely construct new traffic areas or load-bearing structures on these, lightweight, pressure-resistant leveling fills are crucial.
GLAPOR cellular glass gravel combines low bulk density (170 kg/m³) with high compressive strength (up to 800 kPa) – ideal for backfilling above underground car parks, in inner-city areas with tunnels or on soft ground. Even height compensation on slopes or fill heights of over 5 meters can be achieved in a stable and durable manner.

Soft or settlement-sensitive substrates make road construction more difficult – conventional backfilling materials quickly reach their limits here. In regions such as the Netherlands, GLAPOR cellular glass gravel is therefore specifically used to create load-bearing, frost and settlement-resistant superstructures – for example for cycle paths, town squares or bridge approaches.
With a density of just 170 kg/m³ and high compressive strength, cellular glass gravel is ideal for lightweight substructures. It is laid in layers on geotextile (e.g. GLAPOR fleece), compacted and forms a load-bearing subgrade for the superstructure – in accordance with the FGSV data sheet M SGS.
GLAPOR also offers high-performance gravel with special environmental and load-bearing properties for more demanding requirements.
